The only consistency of product is “intersection.”
“Product” is conventionally wrapped as the intersection of business, design, and engineering.
The product operating model says it is at the intersection of viability, usability, and feasibility.
With the labor market - at the intersection of business analysis, project management, information systems and computer science.
According to NAICS codes, “product” is under the functional area of marketing.
Somewhere between research and development (R&D) and process frameworks that distill truth of human behavior through the economics of internal and external customer experiences.
What is a customer but a consumer, user, buyer, or stakeholder.
Whether hardware or digital, products are as much a software-as-a-service (SaaS) as a service itself.
Product can be a movie. Optic fibers for telecommunication. The lemonade stand. The church.
All STEAM is in its reflection.
Core to the product mindset is the jobs to be done (JTBD) methodology. It is the underbelly of every experience and the zeitgeist being targeted by AI displacement. It is also validation. The job is what we fight for in ownership and barter for with agency. A “good job” is the stamp of approval and credibility.
Here we explore them all.
